South Korean steel giant Posco announced Tuesday that it hosted a roundtable on workplace safety last week at the 60th Korea Industrial Hygiene Association Winter Conference to explore the application of artificial intelligence and smart technologies in industrial hygiene.

With the growing adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies, such as AI, Internet of Things and robotics, discussions focused on how these innovations are enhancing worker health and workplace environments.

Posco showcased its use of robots and smart protective technologies, highlighting quadruped robots and hearing protection systems designed to enhance workplace safety and health.

Hyundai Motor Group also participated, presenting ways to integrate advanced smart technologies into industrial hygiene, including cases of industrial wearable robots that improve worker safety.

Posco’s quadruped robot, designed for high-risk manual tasks, autonomously inspects equipment in restricted areas, helping to maintain manufacturing facilities in optimal condition.

Additionally, its hearing protection solution, which uses IoT-based noise measurement technology, reduces noise exposure while enabling clear communication in noisy environments.

Meanwhile, Posco is evolving its smart factory concept into an “Intelligent Factory” — an autonomous manufacturing system powered by human-AI-robot collaboration. This initiative underscores Posco’s commitment to fostering a human-centric, safe and healthy workplace.
