Korean standards to be promoted internationally

The government plans to spend 325.8 billion won ($263 million) to establish international standards for key Korean technologies, including 5G, intelligent transport systems and system semiconductors.

A standard setting committee under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Sunday said it agreed with the 16 government departments to establish plans to establish national standards aimed at supporting the growth of companies by helping them branch out overseas and improve people’s quality of life. The amount to be spent this year is 18 percent higher than that of last year.

The Ministry of Science and ICT will work on standardizing 5G network, the Internet of Things and blockchain technology, while the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will work on standards for gochujang chili paste, kimchi and doenjang fermented soybean paste.

Efforts to propose Korea’s standards for a Covid-19 quarantine model to the International Organization for Standardization are also planned.
